Thank you for publishing the letters from Mark Van Steeter (Dec. 5) and Mark Weiss (Dec. 6) concerning the vitally important bipartisan bill in the U.S. House of Representatives: the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, H.R. 7173. Currently, this bill is our best bet for addressing the disastrous effects of climate change.
Readers, you who care deeply about a healthy future of your family, for people everywhere, and for all species, this bill is too important to allow to sink into the oblivion of congressional committees.
What action can you take? To go forward, this bill needs support from constituents in every state. Please urge everyone you know locally and across the country to promote this bill by contacting their U.S. representatives with “Pay Attention to H.R. 7173!” messages. Insist that members of the House Ways & Means, Energy & Commerce, and Foreign Affairs Committees (to which this bill is assigned) vote to bring the bill to the floor of the House. Then in January when the next session of Congress begins, make those contacts again.
It’s winter holiday time, and we’re all very busy. But the recent findings that global carbon emissions have risen alarmingly more than expected must spur all of us to action. This is our future.
