Don’t be fooled by health care reform plans proposed as alternatives to Medicare for All.
There is Medicare X, which would allow individuals and eventually small businesses to buy a public insurance plan similar to Medicare. There is a plan to allow anyone to buy in to Medicaid. There is the Medicare Extra for All Plan, which works through private insurers, who must all provide the same benefits at the same price, and would retain deductibles and copays.
The only way Medicare for All works is if we are all in it together. As long as there is only buy-in to a public plan, the private insurers will cream off the healthy people, leaving the public to pay for everyone else. And as long as there are deductibles and copays, some people won’t be able to afford to get the care they need. Everybody in, nobody out.
