When hope binds us together we can do great things like the moon mission. ("Remember Lessons of Moon Mission," by Seth Bernstein, Corvallis Gazette-Times, July 27 letter.)
Right now, for the first time we have the opportunity to end hunger and poverty and control disease. How would that be for a moon shot? Call and write those who represent you in Congress and tell them it is time. Ask them to support a renters tax credit and other ladders out of poverty to end the gross inequity in our country. Thank your representative for continued support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, which has helped cut deaths from these three pandemics by at least a third and keeps us on the path to finally control them. Poverty is a product of our system, and using our voices together for efforts like these can finally bring it to an end. If we work together on this, 50 years from now they will be talking about this moon shot.
