Our president is lacking in many areas, truthfulness, courtesy, political awareness, honesty, and general fitness for the position he holds. But he is only a stooge for the real villain, Mitch McConnell.
The Senate majority leader has done more damage to our country than the present occupant of the White House. His long-term goal is to pack the judiciary with right-wing ideologues and he is perilously close to achieving this aim.
The day President Obama was inaugurated, McConnell called a meeting of party heads and stated on camera that their goal was to ensure that Obama would be a one-term president. The Republicans became the party of "no" and attempted to block anything Obama proposed, culminating with the refusal to give a hearing for his Supreme Court nominee.
The legislature is a vital part of the system of checks and balances that make our system work. By refusing to bring up anything the president says he won't sign, McConnell has allowed him almost dictatorial powers. The Democratic takeover of the house is a step in the right direction but as long as McConnell blocks anything sent up by the House, the drift toward dictatorship continues.
Trump and McConnell are both up for election in 2020 so we can get rid of both of them at the same time. Our present best hope is that the Mueller investigation will expose the rot in the system so action can be taken before 2020. We can only hope this will work.
