One definition of socialism is an economic system where "the means of production, distribution, and exchange are owned or regulated by the community as a whole." I hope the United States is never socialist in that sense.

The term "socialized medicine" is a misnomer under that definition — publicly funded services are not socialist, so antisocialists would not necessarily be against a national health care system. I hope we do get there, and I think we should look at the examples of other First World countries that have socialized medicine, where private insurance is an important supplement to the national system. We should definitely have a say in our own health care and no system would ever happen here without that. Kamala Harris got it wrong, in my opinion, but there are better plans out there.
