In February, I wrote that THC use by pregnant women results in babies that are likely to be of low birth weight, low intelligence, and with a risk of ADHD (See Andrew Scheyer: https://bit.ly/2FgO7ms; the entire article is online) and T. L. Crume et al. https://bit.ly/2FN4NR2 (abstract available online). The percent of pregnant women who use marijuana jumped from to 7 to 9 in the last decade (https://bit.ly/2xxqkIT)!
Sixteen years ago, my colleagues at the Universtiy of South Florida published in Clinical Microbiology Reviews a thorough discussion of the large, negative effects of marijuana, opioids, cocaine, nicotine and alcohol on infection rates, immunity and mortality (https://bit.ly/2LFOh9p) The full texts of the last two articles are available online.
The alarming death rate from opioid abuse prompted recent laws to restrict prescriptions. Alcohol and tobacco are sold with warnings for pregnant women. Yet, despite the readily available news about THC, more states are legalizing the recreational use of marijuana! Primarily “progressive” politicians are advancing this legislation. Are they ignoring science or caving to their constituents? Or do they not mind if Americans will be progressing downward?
