I'm reminded that Wednesday, April 17, is International Bat Day! The one day each year that is set aside to remember the funny furry mammals that fly silently in our night skies.

We need the bats, and we need to honor them and their accomplishments. They are important pollinators, they are Earth's super reforestation professionals (via spreading seeds), and of course they eat remarkable numbers of obnoxious insects.

I urge everyone in our community to set aside a few moments today to celebrate these underappreciated creatures and the important services they provide for us, free!
