Thank you, Town and Country Realty and thank you, Cloud Davidson, for rescuing the Fourth of July festival. Too often leadership or boards evaluate events in terms of maximizing profit and they lose track of livability of our town.
When an event gets too expensive for whatever reason, the solution seems to be to cancel. The leadership does not reach out to the community asking for ideas or does not try to lower the costs (costs of the festival or cost of the tickets - either one could prove to be profitable). We have seen that scenario with the da Vinci Days festival, which used to put Corvallis on the map of the whole Pacific Northwest and now has to work very hard to recover its customer base. We almost experienced it with the Majestic Theatre.
We are lucky that there are people who understand how important for the whole town, and for its businesses as well, are community-building events. Thank you again.
