Since 2015, the United States has refueled in mid-air Saudi planes to make possible their bombing runs into Yemen. In the latest accounting I found, by October 2017 the U.S. military reported it had provided over 80 million pounds of fuel, and refueled over 10,400 flights in the Horn of Africa region (largely supporting the Saudi coalition’s war in Yemen).
So the U.S. is supplying the bombs, the airplanes, and the essential fuel to facilitate the gravest humanitarian tragedy on earth. Your dollars are yielding devastation to one of the poorest countries on earth, forever staining our reputation in blood.
This must stop, and Trump, DeFazio, Blumenauer, Walden, Wyden, and Merkley should be hearing form each and every one of us to express that this is unacceptable. Unlike Vietnam, our young people are not dying, but from a moral perspective, this is an even greater disgrace. We must insist that our good name, our resources and our powerful weapons not be used by the unhinged Saudi monarchy in this ghastly violation of human rights.
