After reading about the discussion that the Greater Albany Public Schools Board had regarding the qualifications of certain applicants for the open position on that board, I thought it might be helpful to clarify the role that Javier Cervantes plays at Linn-Benton Community College.
Javier is a highly placed and highly respected member of LBCC's leadership team. Like GAPS, the fastest growing demographic of our students at LBCC is Hispanic/Latino and Javier has been instrumental in helping us to better understand and better serve these members of our community. He adds a broader cultural understanding of the challenges and opportunities we face, and of the decisions we need to make. A strong advocate for students, Javier helps us to develop and maintain an inclusive focus on those we serve.
