Thanks to Bennett Hall for his entertaining story on this year's Fourth of July parade. However, the headline is not quite accurate. The parade did not kick off Fourth of July activities on the riverfront. For the past several years, the actual July 4th kickoff event has been the "Fireworks 5K" run/walk benefiting the Corvallis Boys and Girls Club, which begins with 8 a.m registration with the run starting at 9 a.m. The cost is just $10. This event starts and ends before the scheduled parade. I believe they had 254 participants this year.

So, in the future, please note this event in your summary of downtown Corvallis Fourth of July activities — thanks!
