A swimmer who went missing Saturday afternoon in the Rogue River has been identified as Hannah McGuire, a 28-year-old woman from Philomath.
McGuire was swimming in the river near Indian Mary Park in Josephine County. According to a media release from Josephine County Rural/Metro Fire, she was last seen across the river near a rope swing when she disappeared.
KDRV.com reported that several bystanders, her friends and an off-duty Grants Pass firefighter jumped into the water to try to find her.
A 13-year-old who saw the incident, Nicholas Shinn, told KTVL, "It happened within like 30 seconds; it was just like that. She was like kind of yelling and then everybody like sprinted over and tried to like swim across the river to help her and then when people got there right when they got there, she went under and nobody could find her."
As of Monday morning, authorities continued to search for her body.
