The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund distributed $397,514.05 to 34 organizations this past August as it continued its quarterly donations to nonprofit groups.
Among those receiving a grant was Philomath Community Gleaners. The organization, an outreach program under the umbrella of Philomath Community Services, received $2,000 to help the community-based food bank.
Philomath Community Gleaners helps feed the hungry by harvesting local food that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it back to gleaner members. Also, donated firewood is cut, collected and shared among Gleaner members who need wood as a fuel source.
A feature of the program is gleaner volunteers can share food and firewood that they harvest with "adoptees" or those who cannot physically glean food or firewood but still have those needs.
