Safety Town

Officer Mark Koeppe watches over the miniature town that is set up in the Clemens Primary School gymnasium as a Safety Town teaching tool. Parents can register their incoming kindergartners for the Aug. 13-17 event at the Philomath Youth Activities Club.

Registration for the Philomath Youth Activities Club’s “Philomath Safety Town” program is underway with the deadline extended to July 1.

The summer program, designed for Philomath School District children who will be entering kindergarten this fall, runs Aug. 13-17 at Clemens Primary School.

Under the guidance of a teacher, law-enforcement officer and teen instructors, children are introduced to safety concepts. They will practice being safe pedestrians and drivers of peddle cars on a miniature town. Songs, art projects, videos, a bus field trip and various presentations complete the experience.

Each day’s activities run from 9 a.m.-noon. A graduation ceremony occurs at 11:15 a.m. on the Friday.

The fee is $25 per child. Snacks and a T-shirt will be provided. For scholarship information, call PYAC at 929-4040. Registration forms are available at PYAC, 421 S. 19th St., or can be downloaded at bit.ly/safety-town-2018.
