HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Redshirt junior Ronnie Bresser placed second at 125 pounds on Saturday at the 55th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at the Sears Center.

Bresser fell 2-1 to No. 2-ranked Nick Suriano of Rutgers in the championship bout. He was the first OSU wrestler to advance to the finals at the Midlands Championships since 2012.

Bresser advanced to the championship match by defeating two-time Junior World Champion Spencer Lee of Iowa 3-1 in the semifinals. He went 4-1 at the Midlands and earned his best-ever finish at the tournament, one of the country's premier regular-season competitions.

OSU took 12th place with 47 points, a nine-place improvement from the 2016 tournament. Iowa was the team champion.

Redshirt senior heavyweight Amar Dhesi won his first consolation match on a 5-2 decision over Jake Gunning of Buffalo. He then was pinned by Youssif Hemida of Maryland in the subsequent consolation round, and took a medical forfeit to Conan Jennings of Northwestern in the fifth-place bout to take sixth.

Dhesi is still getting into top condition following a November 2016 knee reconstruction surgery. He missed the entire 2016-17 season.

Redshirt senior Jack Hathaway (141) lost a 2-1 decision to Yahya Thomas of Northwestern in his first consolation match on Saturday. Freshman Hunter Willits (157) also lost his opening match, to Andrew Crone of Wisconsin.

The Beavers continue their Midwest road trip with duals at South Dakota State on Friday and at Iowa State on Jan. 7. They return home to host Wyoming on Jan. 12.

SAN DIEGO — The Beavers fell 124-120 to San Diego State in a dual at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Freshman Fernanda Rodriguez won the 200 breaststroke (2:28.96) and 200 individual medley (2:16.88) to lead OSU. She also placed placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.38).

"After being home for Christmas break, I thought we prepared well," coach Jennifer Buffin said. "I am looking forward to being in San Diego for the next week.

"It gives us a great opportunity to continue the work we were doing before the break and allows us to focus on our next meet against UCLA."

Freshman Amina Bachir placed fourth in the 1000 freestyle (11:05.66). Sophomore Merritt Allen placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:11.68) and second in the 200 IM (2:17.73).

Sophomore Felicia Anderson won the 100 butterfly (58.55) and took third in the 200 freestyle (1:57.81). She also led the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams to third place and first place, respectively.

Junior Megan Lam posted a new personal best in the 50 free (25.88) to finish fifth and had a season-best in the 100 freestyle (55.80) to finish sixth.

OSU hosts UCLA at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Osborn Aquatic Center in its next meet.
