HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — The Oregon State wrestling team is in 11th place after the opening day of the 55th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern University at the Sears Center.

Ronnie Bresser (125) went 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals to lead the Beavers at the tournament, one of the premier events in college wrestling. He will face Spencer Lee of Iowa (unattached) in his first match on Saturday.

Jack Hathaway (141) went 4-1 and is alive in the consolation round of 16.  Hunter Willits (157) went 3-1 and joins Hathaway in the consolation round of 16, as does heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi, who went 2-1.

Heavyweight Cody Crawford went 3-2 but was eliminated. Devan Turner (133), Grant Willits (141), newcomer Josh Reyes (149), Conner Noonan (149), Kurt Mode (149), Billy Bigelow (165), Myles Terry (174) and Corey Griego (197) were also eliminated.

The tournament concludes on Saturday. The Beavers are at South Dakota State on Jan. 5 and at Iowa State on Jan. 7 in their next action. Their next home match is Jan. 12 against Wyoming.
