EUGENE — Oregon State's Destiny Dawson took ninth place in the women's javelin on Thursday, earning second-team All-American honors at the NCAA Track & Field National Championships at Hayward Field.
A redshirt junior from Cottage Grove, Dawson set the Oregon State record throwing 171 feet, 7 inches in the finals. She becomes just the second Beaver to All-American in the javelin at the NCAA Championships.
Dawson punched her ticket into the finals with a throw of 170-3 in her final attempt of three throws, which momentarily broke her previous school record of 168-11. Her next record-setting throw came on her first attempt in the finals at 171-7.
With the top-eight placers earning first team All-American honors, Dawson was edged by Texas A&M's Kristen Clark's throw at 173-4. Stanford's Mackenzie Little claimed the crown at 198-0.
