PORT MOODY, B.C. — The West Albany boys basketball team topped Heritage Woods Secondary School 88-73 on Wednesday in the opening round of the Port Moody Double Blue Tournament.

Orean Courtney had 25 points, Cassius McGinty 14 and Nick Fleetwood 10 for the Bulldogs (3-4). They led 45-28 at halftime and held off a third-quarter rally to post the victory.

"We played well defensively in the second and fourth quarters, which led to turnovers and baskets," West coach Derek Duman said. "We started slowly in the first and third quarters.

"We were up 17 at halftime and they got it to within four points," but came no closer. "At that point defensively we did a better job and that led to easy transition baskets."
