The Crescent Valley High wrestling team will get an early look at its dual meet strength Friday.
The Raiders will host Crook County, last year’s 4A state champion and now a 5A school, at 7 p.m. in Raider Gym.
The Cowboys, of Prineville, have one returning state champion in Hunter Mode at 106 pounds. Crook County also had five non-seniors place second in their respective state brackets.
The Cowboys have won five of last six 4A state titles and are ranked first in this week’s 5A coaches preseason poll. They are coached by Scio High alum and former Oregon State wrestler Jake Huffman.
CV, ranked sixth in that poll, took fifth at state in the 5A division last year.
The Raiders return state champions in sophomore Chance Lamer (106) and brother Legend Lamer (138), a junior. Legend Lamer has won three state titles.
Senior Brock Love placed sixth at state at 182. Sophomore Owen Cserep (106) and Brandon Lareau (285) qualified for state and missed placing by one match. Lareau will not compete Friday due to injury.
