JUNCTION CITY — Sweet Home High dominated the 4A Special District 2 wrestling tournament, nearly doubling up its next closest competition.

The Huskies had eight individual champions and five others place second – losing to teammates in the finals — as Sweet Home piled up 478.5 points.

Junction City was second with 243.5, Cascade third with 239.5 while Philomath was fourth with 162.

The top four placers in each weight class advanced to the 4A state tournament, set for Feb. 22-23 at Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Sweet Home had five championship matches that pitted teammates against each other:

At 120 pounds, Tristan Spencer pinned Keegan Fox in 2 minutes, 48 seconds.

At 126, Robert Watkins earned a 5-1 decision over Brayden Newport.

At 132, Jackson Royer pinned Bryce Porter in 1:59.

At 152, Travis Thorpe earned a 2-1 sudden victory over Boe Baxter.

At 160, Hayden McDonald collected a 13-6 decision over Jesse Jamison.

Also picking up titles for the Huskies were Robbie Yunke (145), Nich James (182) and David McMullen (285).

Taking third for the Huskies were Kyle Watkins (106) and Connor Ford (113), while Treyson Smith (106), Christian Gregory (113), Gavin Walberg (138) and Austin Olin (195) were all fourth.

Philomath had two wrestlers make the finals, but both — Isiah Blackburn (170) and Brooks Stearns (182) — finished second. Blais Pindell (126) was third.
