STAYTON — Philomath High used a strong defensive performance to take a 3-0 Oregon West Conference win Tuesday over Stayton.

The Warriors (10-4, 10-0) finished first in the OWC and will play next Tuesday in the state playoffs.

PHS coach John Williams said the field was wet and muddy.

“It poured right when we pulled into the parking lot,” Williams said. “There was a lot of slipping and a lot of sliding.”

Williams said the Warriors shared the ball well and created a lot of opportunities.

He said the back line played well for the Warriors.

“They just did an excellent job of keeping Stayton away fron the goal,” Williams said.

“The back line stepped up when they needed to step up.”
