Prep track and field: PHS girls first, boys second at Newport

NEWPORT -- Four athletes won two individual events Thursday to help the Philomath High girls track and field team hold off host Newport by one point in a three-team meet.

Emma Callender won both hurdles races and ran a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay.

Also getting two wins for the Warriors were Meaghan Alba (1,500, 3,000), Colleen Kutzler (high jump, pole vault) and Brenna Marshall (long jump, triple jump).

PHS won the meet with 82 points. Newport had 81.

In the boys' half of the meet, Jared Erickson (200) and Mitchell Thomas (1,500) each won an individual event and were on a winning relay. Kyle Ackermann and Trevor Sartnurak were on both winning relays.
