COTTAGE GROVE — Philomath junior Isaac Manning improved his pole vault personal best by six inches to win the event Friday and lead the Philomath boys to 10th place at the Walter Ciochetti Invitational track and field meet.

Manning moved into second place among the 4A season bests with his clearance of 15 feet.

Teammates Keith Larson (discus) and Trevor Sartnurak (100 meters) were second in their respective events and Mitchell Thomas was third in the 1,500.

Tierra Stephenson won the 300 low hurdles to lead the Philomath girls, who were fifth.

It was the first time Stephenson, a senior, competed in the event. Her time of 47.87 put her ninth on the 4A season list.

Teammate Rachel Seagren won the pole vault. Jenna Grunwald was third in the 800 and 1,500. Megan Schrock was third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 100 high hurdles.
